Gather around the fire, then cook dinner on it. The Arteflame Classic 40" Fire Pit with Cooktop is a designer fire pit, grill and griddle in one. A sculpted 40" bowl sits at a relaxed 22" seating height. A removable ½" steel cooktop ring and a center grill grate turn it into an outdoor kitchen for 8 or more. When dinner is done, lift off the cooktop and enjoy an open fire.

How the cooktop works

• Sear over the fire: a wood or charcoal fire burns in the center under a removable grill grate that passes 1,000°F, for steaks, chops and burgers.
• Griddle around it: the flat-top ring gives 1,250+ sq in for eggs, pancakes, smash burgers, fish and vegetables, with nothing falling through the grates.
• Built-in heat zones: measured on an Arteflame Classic 40, the cooktop runs about 450–550°F near the inner edge and 250–350°F toward the outer edge, so you can sear, cook and keep food warm at the same time.
• No flare-ups on the cooktop: the steel sits between the fire and the food, so grease cannot drip into the flames.
• Fire pit first: at 22" high on a low base, it is made for sitting around the fire. Lift off the cooktop when dinner is done.

Design and materials

The fire bowl is 10-gauge weathering steel (Corten), about 3.4 mm thick. Outdoors it forms a warm, rust-colored patina that protects the steel and needs no paint. Care

Season the cooktop like cast iron with the included seasoning puck. After cooking, scrape it clean while warm and wipe on a light coat of oil to build a natural, low-stick patina. Allow 30–45 minutes for the steel to heat through before cooking.
